Position Overview The Arts and Crafts Specialist co-creates and co-leads the development and implementation of Camp Kingfisher’s Arts & Crafts program. Arts & Crafts at Camp Kingfisher is meant to be a fun and creative space for campers to gain enrichment that supports the current session theme. The Arts & Crafts Specialists are responsible for teaching up to six interactive arts & craft classes per day for rising K – 7th graders and fulfilling additional specialist duties at camp.
All staff at Camp Kingfisher are hired to:
lead campers as a positive, caring role model
provide campers with fun, positive outdoor learning experiences
help campers grow and learn through challenges
Essential Functions
Develop and supervise all aspects of art program for campers entering grades K-7
Create fun, age-appropriate craft and art projects based around camp’s session themes
Submit weekly curriculum
Set up, decorate, and pack up craft shack
Maintain high standards of safety, health, and cleanliness during art and other activities
Support program areas such as aftercare, waterfront, pool, and all-camp activities as directed
Substitute as counselor as needed
Clean camp facilities as needed/required
Attend weekly camp staff and specialist meetings
Complete additional duties as assignedContribute to verbal/written evaluations and communication as requested
Keeping track of and recording hours worked, requesting director’s approval for any additional hours prior to work
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Willingness to work outdoors during the summer season
Must be able to lift over 20 pounds
Valid driver’s license or state issued ID
Skills
Experience (and passion for) teaching or working with children, art specific experience preferred
Creativity and willingness to get messy
Ability to relate to campers and staff of various ages
Background in art education, environmental education, natural history, education, child care, or camps
Comfortable in an outdoor setting
Current First Aid/CPR certification, course provided
