Position Overview Join the Ramily! Winston-Salem State University is seeking a dedicated and motivated Grounds/Landscape Technician to join our Facilities Management team. The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive groundskeeping and landscaping services, including trash and recycling support, across the university's campus. This role ensures the upkeep, beauty, and safety of our university grounds through skilled landscape maintenance and customer‑focused service.

Key Responsibilities

Perform maintenance and landscaping tasks such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning trees, and planting shrubs, flowers, grass, and trees.

Water and fertilize plants and lawns; apply weed control solutions as necessary.

Clear campus grounds, walkways, and roads of leaves, debris, snow, and ice.

Patch roads and driveways and assist in installing campus signage.

Use powered groundskeeping equipment and hand tools safely and efficiently.

Perform minor repairs and routine preventative maintenance on landscape equipment.

Participate in moving, hauling, and special event set‑ups across campus.

Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to complete work assignments.

Listen and respond promptly and respectfully to customer and departmental needs.

Follow instructions carefully and ask clarifying questions to ensure tasks are completed accurately.

Position Details Position Title: Building Environmental Services Technician (Grounds/Landscape Technician) Classification: Non‑Exempt, Class 16785 Hours: 6am‑3pm, occasionally weekend & evening; 40 hours per week; 12 months per year; Full‑time, Permanent Salary: $33,540.00 – $47,847.00 per year (plus equity, budget and market considerations) Location: 1602 Lowery St, Winston‑Salem, NC Appointment Length: 12 months (permanent) Appointment Type: Permanent Full‑Time

Requirements and Preferences

Minimum experience/education: Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and perform medium to heavy physical work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred experience: General knowledge of landscaping practices, tools, and equipment; experience operating grounds maintenance machinery (mowers, trimmers, blowers); ability to perform physical labor outdoors in various weather conditions; strong communication skills; commitment to safety and quality service; prior experience in a campus or institutional setting.

Required license or certification: Valid US Driver's License (yes); Commercial Driver's License not required.

Work requirements: Ability to work during adverse weather or emergencies; on‑call/emergency callback required.
