Generate functional mechanical solutions from complex project requirements through innovative conceptual designs
Assist engineers and scientists in developing, building, sketching and producing production‑level prototypes
Conduct field testing to evaluate solutions in DoD specific application environments
Develop cost‑effective mechanical systems to evaluate conceptual designs
Provide technical expertise and assistance to other engineers and support personnel
Author technical reports, white papers, proposals, and documentation supporting R&D projects
Work under the direction of Program Managers, Principal Investigators or Project Engineers
Ensure designs comply with relevant safety, quality, and industry standards, including applicable military standards (MIL‑STD)
Maintain proper PPE usage and adhere to all safety standards
Meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 30 lbs and performing hands‑on mechanical tasks in office, lab, or field environment
Skills / Qualifications
U.S. Citizen
Experience participating in design teams to develop mechanical and/or electromechanical systems meeting design requirements including thermal, acoustic, and vibration requirements
Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced, autonomously driven environment
Experience with 3D CAD systems such as SolidWorks
Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
Strong technical and analytical thinking skills with a detail‑oriented physics‑based approach
Ability to self‑manage assigned project tasks to meet schedule
Proven track record of technical writing (reports, proposals, publications); samples may be required
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated ability to learn new skills
Must pass a background check and drug screen
Desired Skills / Qualifications
Practical knowledge of AS9100 or other quality management systems
Experience with the design, development, and testing of small combustion‑driven engine systems, including designing and tuning mechanical system controls
Experience designing mechanical systems for diverse soldier environments, including maintenance procedures and sustainment support
