Job Summary The Mechanical Design Engineer position is responsible for developing a variety of HVAC&R product designs for both commercial and defense markets including heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems. This position will design new products using 2D and 3D CAD; size and select components; create associated documentation; and support product testing, qualification, and production.
Job Responsibilities
Design mechanical equipment, especially heat exchangers, air conditioning, refrigeration, and air handling systems using 2D and 3D modeling software, primarily PTC Creo and AutoCAD.
Engineer HVAC&R equipment for component sizing, selection, and performance prediction.
Review customer specifications and requirements, and develop compliant designs to best support them.
Specify and evaluate supplier components, subsystems and services.
Develop manufacturing drawings, bills of material and supporting documentation for fabrication and delivery of products and prototypes.
Support testing, qualification, documentation and analysis of prototypes, products, systems, or subsystems.
Review customer specifications and requirements to support bids and proposals.
Provide budget, cost, and schedule input for status of project assignments.
Attend appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings.
Hands‑on support of prototype fabrication, assembly, and test.
Liaison engineering support of manufacturing operations.
Work with manufacturing and cross‑functional teams to achieve project cost and manufacturing efficiency goals.
Responsible for completion of projects on time, within budget and following design specifications.
Maintain and develop technical knowledge by conferring with technical specialists and suppliers, attending educational workshops, and reviewing professional publications.
Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and customers.
Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing results in a cooperative and supportive manner.
Work independently under supervision of others while reporting progress and status.
Support, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field with 5+ years of experience.
Experience designing mechanical components and equipment, preferably HVAC&R (air conditioning, air handling and refrigeration), including sheet metal parts, welded structures and machined components.
Experience creating drawings following ASME Y14.100 and associated documentation such as bill of materials.
Experience designing and drafting with 2D CAD and 3D solid modeling software.
Competency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Comfortable writing and creating technical documentation.
Desired Qualifications
Experience modeling, designing, and drafting with PTC Creo (assembly and sheet metal).
Experience with PDM/PLM software, especially Windchill.
Experience drafting with AutoCAD Mechanical 2D.
Experience designing defense products, especially for the US Navy.
Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics.
U.S. Citizenship required.
