Position Summary Operate and maintain mechanical equipment, such as but not limited to: centrifugal chillers, heat exchanges, compressors, emergency generators, steam boilers, medical pumps, pumps, HVAC systems, and other services for the hospital. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.
Detailed Responsibilities
Inspect, maintain, clean and rebuild traps and strainers; service and repair exhaust fans
Repair steam and condensate leaks on steam distribution system
Grease fan motors, adjust belts or replace belts as needed or as scheduled including checking pumps and motor operations
Inspect, maintain and repair the heating/cooling/steam condensate distribution system including the removal and replacement and repair of system components
Check pumps and motor operations in various areas of hospital complex
Check humidity and draft gauges on air handling systems
Perform rounds in the central plant and Hospital buildings; respond to trouble calls within the facility
Inspect all plant mechanical systems and report any malfunction to engineering supervisor
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance as required by the CMMS system
Install and repair mechanical systems or equipment as needed
Assist other maintenance departments as required by supervisor
Report any repairs or maintenance needed throughout the building or grounds dealing both in or out of respective trade
Required to keep the supervisor informed of whereabouts at all times
Participate in cross-training programs that will help carry out duties throughout the department
Maintain and clean tools and shop area; maintain shop area in operational condition
Report to supervisor any condition rendered unsafe or equipment not repairable and notify department concerned
Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and hospital employees
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required
Qualifications Education Essential: High School or GED Equivalent
Experience Essential: 2 years directly related experience
Nonessential: No preferred experience
Credentials Essential:
Boiler Operator license in State of NM within 1 year of position
Valid New Mexico Driver's License
UNM Vehicle Operator's Permit within 60 days
Nonessential:
Automated Logic Corp. Controls Certification
Physical Conditions Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Med Haz: Mod exposure to chemicals/dangerous equipment/materials
Subject to random alcohol and substance testing
Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
