Overview We are seeking skilled and detail‑oriented Toolmakers, Precision Machinists, and Machine Builders to join our dynamic team in Rochester, NY. In this role, you will play a crucial part in the design, fabrication, and assembly of precision tools and machinery. If you have a passion for craftsmanship and a keen eye for detail, we want to hear from you.
Toolmaker Responsibilities
Design and build custom tools and machinery according to specifications.
Interpret blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate assembly.
Utilize a variety of machining tools and equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, and jig bores.
Conduct quality checks and inspections to maintain high standards of precision.
Collaborate with engineers and other team members to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
Maintain a clean and organized workspace, adhering to safety protocols.
Keep up to date with industry trends and advancements in toolmaking technology.
Machinist Responsibilities
May install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment and evaluate the unit to ensure functionality.
Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications or sample part(s) to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces, sequence of operations, and set‑up requirements.
Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces as guides for subsequent machining.
Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, or others.
Calculate and program controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, edit, or input computerized machine control media.
Analyze and resolve any set‑up non‑conformance.
Verify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using precision measuring instruments and record data on in‑process reports if required.
Set up and operate machine on a trial run to verify accuracy of machine set‑up or programmed control data.
Fit and assemble parts into a complete assembly and verify conformance if required.
May confer with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Debug support as required.
May assist toolmaker/machine builder in assembly of larger projects.
May train employees if required.
May have a secondary position on a “team” such as safety or ISO auditing.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification preferred.
Proven experience as a Toolmaker, Machine Builder, or Precision Machinist.
Strong knowledge of machining processes and tool design principles.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical documents.
Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong communication skills and a positive attitude.
