Job Summary
The Asset Management Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, performance, and long‑term health of critical electrical assets across the power system. This role oversees major equipment such as generators, transformers, switchgear, batteries, and emergency systems, identifying risks before they result in outages or system failures.
The engineer leads technical evaluations, analyzes asset condition and performance data, and develops maintenance, replacement, and capital investment strategies. The role supports major maintenance outages, emergency repairs, and capital projects while ensuring compliance with reliability and regulatory standards, including NERC and FERC OATT requirements.
This position combines engineering expertise, reliability planning, and cross‑functional leadership to help keep the grid safe, compliant, and resilient.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
Experience in asset management, reliability engineering, or power systems engineering within an electric utility, transmission, or generation environment.
Strong working knowledge of electrical power equipment, including transformers, generators, switchgear, substations, and emergency power systems.
Experience analyzing asset condition, maintenance history, and performance data to support reliability and lifecycle decisions.
Familiarity with NERC reliability standards and FERC Open Access Transmission Tariff (OATT) requirements.
Ability to lead technical discussions, evaluate complex engineering problems, and make risk‑based recommendations.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Experience supporting transmission systems, substations, or grid‑scale infrastructure.
Knowledge of condition monitoring technologies, predictive maintenance techniques, or asset health indexing.
Experience supporting capital planning, large maintenance outages, or emergency restoration efforts.
Familiarity with asset management frameworks or tools used in utility environments.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and assess the condition, performance, and lifecycle health of electrical assets, including transformers, generators, switchgear, substations, and backup power systems.
Analyze operational, maintenance, and condition data to identify emerging risks and predict potential equipment failures.
Develop asset strategies, including preventive maintenance plans, risk‑based replacement recommendations, and long‑term capital investment roadmaps.
Lead and provide technical guidance to engineering and maintenance teams supporting asset management initiatives.
Support capital projects, major maintenance outages, and emergency response activities, providing engineering analysis and technical decision‑making.
Collaborate with transmission operations, planning, maintenance, and compliance teams to align asset strategies with system reliability needs.
Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and reliability standards, including NERC, FERC, and OATT requirements.
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and recommendations for internal stakeholders and leadership.
Participate in root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews related to asset condition, reliability, and compliance.
