Job Summary To support the growth of the company, Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician.

This is a dedicated on‑site position and we do not provide emergency side‑of‑the‑road type of repairs.

The Sr. Mobile Trailer Technician will be responsible for performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, and other duties such as aluminum and chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.

Work is performed at the customer’s site, and the technician is a consultant on the customer’s behalf.

The role includes advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs for Mobile Trailer Technician I/II and is considered the lead on job sites by customers and technicians.

Duties

Always follows and complies with safe operating practices and procedures.

Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.

Maintain and operate company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑/post‑trip inspections.

Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform the job and evaluate technical information.

Work with and listen effectively to clients to assess their needs and provide information or assistance.

Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work related activities and time allocations.

Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.

Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.

Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.

Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.

Document and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings observed on Repair Orders (RO) using company‑issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.

Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.

Work independently and manage own daily schedule.

Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.

Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as needed for repairs.

Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.

Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.

Participate in all company required safety training.

Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors.

Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various trailer equipment and systems.

Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives.

Inspect, test, and diagnose defective equipment using handheld computers and pressure gauges.

Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics and support Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II in inventory reconciliation.

Advises Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II on technical issues.

Perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs performed by Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of experience in a related field, or a different combination such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED and 3 years of experience, or 7 years of experience.

Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.

Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.

Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.

Must successfully pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.

Current and valid DOT medical card with more than 4 months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; otherwise a DOT physical will be required.

Must be at least 21 years or older.

Safe drivers needed and 3‑year MVR review required; must hold a valid state‑of‑residence driver’s license, obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File (DQF), and be eligible to drive in accordance with DOT requirements.

Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of trailer parts and systems for repair or maintenance.

Compensation

USD $31.49 – $47.26 per hour.

Hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on location and selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Position may be eligible for additional compensation such as commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Employees are eligible for a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year.

Additional paid time off includes bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
