Position Overview The Division of Extension and Engagement is seeking a Master Gardener Coordinator for the Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Program in Wasco County. This is a full‑time (1.00 FTE), 12‑month, professional faculty position, based at the OSU Extension Wasco County office on the Columbia Gorge Community College campus in The Dalles, Oregon. The position works closely with the Department of Horticulture and serves Wasco County. The coordinator will provide leadership and coordination for the Wasco County Master Gardener and Community Horticulture programs, including needs assessment, non‑credit program development, delivery, facilitation, and evaluation in areas such as noxious weeds, integrated pest management, community gardens, wildfire‑resilient landscapes, and other community horticulture needs.

The coordinator manages the full volunteer program lifecycle—recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervision, and retention—supports volunteer team leads, addresses volunteer issues, and partners with the local Master Gardener Association.

The role requires the use of modern learning and outreach tools, digital communication, and interdisciplinary integration, and will be included in the annual plan of work, impact statements, and achievement summary. Travel throughout Wasco County is required.

Qualifications Technical & Teaching

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, agriculture education, biology, natural resources, horticulture, or related field, completed by application date.

Demonstrated experience in community horticulture teaching and program design.

Within six months of employment, secure and maintain an Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Consultant License.

Volunteer Management & Communication

Demonstrated teaching skills appropriate for adult learners and volunteers.

Ability to incorporate multiple cultural perspectives in educational design and delivery.

Project or organizational leadership skills, including meeting facilitation and conflict resolution.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.

Proficiency in office software and ability to learn multiple digital communication tools.

Teamwork and supervisory skills for volunteers.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Commitment to inclusive, respectful learning environments.

Supervisory and security requirements: This is a critical or security‑sensitive position. Applicants must complete a criminal history check, driver’s license check, and may be subject to additional checks.

What we would like you to have

Master’s degree related to horticulture, entomology, pest management, plant pathology, soil science, agriculture, or related field.

Experience with Extension or other informal community education delivery.

Ability to engage Spanish‑speaking audiences using bilingual or bicultural skills.

Demonstrated understanding of needs and impact assessment techniques.

Working conditions / schedule: Flexibility to work in various settings, including outdoors and inclement weather; evenings and weekends may be required. Transport equipment up to 40 lbs; traveling throughout Wasco County and Central Oregon.

Compensation/Salary Recommended full‑time salary range: $62,000 – $68,400.
