The Division of Extension and Engagement is seeking a Master Gardener Coordinator for the Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Program in Wasco County. This is a full‑time (1.00 FTE) 12‑month professional faculty position based at the OSU Extension Wasco County office on the Columbia Gorge Community College campus in The Dalles, Oregon.

Job Summary This Coordinator will provide leadership and coordination for the Wasco County Master Gardener and Community Horticulture programs. Core responsibilities include needs assessment, development and delivery of non‑credit educational programming, volunteer program management, and outreach in areas such as noxious weeds, integrated pest management, community gardens, wildfire‑resilient landscapes, and other community horticulture needs.

50% Master gardener volunteer and program management

40% Community horticulture Extension teaching and outreach

Qualifications What You Will Need

Bachelor’s degree related to agriculture, horticulture, biology, or similar (completed by application date).

Demonstrated experience in community horticulture teaching and program design.

Must obtain an Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticide Consultant License within six months of employment and maintain it throughout the position.

Strong teaching skills for adult learners and volunteers.

Experience in volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, scheduling, supervision, and retention.

Project or organizational leadership skills, including meeting facilitation and conflict resolution.

Excellent written and verbal communication with diverse audiences.

Proficiency in office software, web and social media platforms, and digital communication tools.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment.

Commitment to inclusive, respectful, and safe learning environments.

What We Would Like You To Have

Master’s degree in horticulture, entomology, pest management, plant pathology, soil science, agriculture, or related field.

Experience with Extension or other informal or community education delivery methods.

Ability to engage Spanish‑speaking audiences using bilingual or bicultural skills.

Understanding of needs and impact assessment techniques for Extension programs.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Flexibility to work in various office and outdoor settings, including inclement weather.

Evenings and weekends may be required for events and programming, especially during spring and summer.

Ability to transport equipment and educational materials weighing up to 40 lbs.

Travel throughout Wasco County and the Central Oregon region required.

Pay and Benefits Salary: $62,000 – $68,400 (recommended full‑time range). Positions are benefits eligible. Detailed benefits information is available on the university website.
