Community Engagement Coordinator
Community Action Council of Howard County
is dedicated to diminishing poverty and enabling self‑sufficiency for all Howard County individuals, families, and children in need. We focus on five critical services: housing assistance, food assistance, energy assistance, weatherization assistance, and early childhood education.
Who You Are The Community Engagement Coordinator will work closely within the Early Childhood Education team and across all CAC service area departments to engage current clients, increasing community awareness and access to CAC’s core services. Ideal candidates are organized, self‑driven, clear communicators, comfortable in matrixed and agile environments, and able to lead cross‑functional teams.
Responsibilities
Develop and implement an outreach plan for recruiting and enrolling Head Start families to meet enrollment targets.
Coordinate organizational external outreach efforts across departments.
Organize client and family engagement opportunities.
Establish and maintain relationships with community partners.
Support case‑management strategies and partner referrals for clients and prospective clients.
Track event attendance, participation, and engagement metrics to gauge outcomes and community impact.
Maintain a calendar of outreach and engagement events; attend events and coordinate staff attendance from other CAC departments.
Develop and maintain a knowledge base of key information, including eligibility, regarding CAC’s services and partner services.
Visit all CAC locations at least twice monthly.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Marketing, Communication, or a related field.
3–5 years of experience in community outreach, event planning, or nonprofit work.
Strong communication, public‑speaking, and relationship‑building skills.
Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for travel between CAC locations and community sites in Howard County.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an agile and evolving environment.
Strong computer proficiency, especially with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with CAP60.
Project‑management experience.
Early childhood education experience.
Head Start experience.
Bilingual in Spanish.
