Senior Accountant
Position Reports to:
Controller
Position Summary:
The Senior Accountant position is an onsite, full-time position that reports to the Controller and is responsible for providing financial, administrative and clerical services. This includes assisting the Controller in financial management and reporting responsibilities. This position should have a general understanding of GAAP and internal control practices.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
Treasury Management
Perform daily Treasury Management activities include balancing cash daily, setting up electronic transactions with banks, processing transactions in the accounting system, and cash forecasting.
Fuel Management
Monitor daily fuel levels at terminals with fuel and work with suppliers to determine fueling schedules
Balance fuel weekly to vendor invoices and produce various fuel analysis reports
Manage relationships with fuel vendors for pricing and discounts
Process daily revenue reports each morning and distributes to team members.
Perform month end activities and journal entries related to fuel and maintenance analysis
Maintain general ledger and chart of accounts
Reconcile other balance sheet accounts, as required
Perform additional month end activities related to financials and analysis, as needed
Assist with Financial Statement preparation and analysis
Financial Planning and Analysis
Support finance team in the preparation and updating of financial forecasts and budgets
Support the preparation of budget/actual financial analysis
Compliance and auditing
Review for adherence to GAAP accounting principles
Ensure compliance with government tax requirements and assist in preparation and filings in various tax jurisdictions
Assist/coordinate annual audit and other audits as necessary
Perform other related duties as required
Necessary Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
3+ year of experience in accounting or finance role
General understanding of GAAP and internal control practices; CPA and/or experience in public accounting preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office along with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel that includes using pivot tables, indexing, and macros.
Database software skills a plus (e.g., SQL).
Experience with ERP system, including Innovative / AS400 helpful
Trucking company knowledge helpful but not essential
Physical Qualifications:
Ability to sit, talk on the phone and enter data into computer system for long periods of time; and ability to lift up to 20lbs.
