Classification Title: Human Resources Generalist III

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Description HR Operations

Manages the Department of Surgery HR staff. Ensures all internal departmental personnel actions such as hiring, separation, employee relations activities, immigration and other related HR requests are handled appropriately. Aligns with COM and University policies, procedures and regulations.

Ensures HR actions follow departmental approvals and are accurate when submitted to COM‑HR, Employee Relations or other University entities.

Administers and maintains department HR records and files. Responsible for payroll and leave processes, and for department‑wide communication with employees. Guarantees HR staff have appropriate access to UF systems.

Manages the department’s process to ensure required trainings are completed.

Provides HR support by working closely with departmental leadership to interpret policies, resolve employee‑related issues, ensure consistent application of HR practices, and guide them through day‑to‑day HR processes and requirements, in close collaboration with COM‑HR.

Assists colleagues, Director, Vice‑Chairs and Chairman on special projects and other activities as requested. Supports the Department Chair and Director by providing advice, formulating policy, problem‑solving, and ensuring the administrative infrastructure to carry out department missions.

Recruitment & Hiring

Trains and oversees the HR team on all hiring processes for the department’s employees (faculty, housestaff, staff, OPS, STAS, etc.) and appointments.

Responsible for the recruitment of department faculty and staff, including development of job descriptions, gaining approvals, managing postings, removals and advertising processes, and coordinating with COM‑HR regarding benefits, onboarding, and orientation. Coordinates with department leadership and COM‑HR on employee compensation.

Coordinates with department finance regarding all aspects (compensation, start date, mission assignment) of a new hire.

Reviews and closes positions that will not be filled.

UF Health Compliance & Credentialing

Acts as the departmental liaison for the credentialing process, ensuring all providers are properly credentialed before their start date and that provider reappointments are processed. Communicates any issues impacting initial or reappointments to leadership.

Serves as liaison with the Self‑Insurance Trust Office to secure the initial level of malpractice coverage.

Manages the department’s process to maintain all licensures and certifications needed, including FPPE, OPPE and DEA licensure.

General Administration

This position supports the P&T process for the Department of Surgery. Works with faculty to ensure department, college and university deadlines are achieved.

Enters Faculty Assignment Report (FAR) information and effort information for each semester.

Other duties as assigned $70,000 — $80,000 annually

Required Qualifications Qualifications refer to evidence‑based or demonstrated knowledge, skills, abilities, and experiences required for the role. For TEAMS positions the required qualifications should reflect Classification Minimum Requirements. For Faculty roles, these qualifications may reflect college‑specific requirements needed for success in the role.

Preferred

Fluency in Microsoft Office, with a focus on Excel and Word.

Well‑versed in UFHR rules and regulations.

Working knowledge of UF systems: PeopleSoft/MyUFL, Enterprise Analytics, Pageup.

Reporting to the Vice Chair of Administration, this position provides comprehensive oversight of all HR operations for the Department of Surgery, including leadership of the HR team and management of all HR functions and processes. The incumbent supports departmental leadership through policy guidance and compliance oversight and serves as a key liaison with COM‑HR, UF Health, and Credentialing. This role is expected to work collaboratively with divisions and units across the department to ensure consistent, effective, and service‑oriented HR delivery.
