Respite Provider Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) is looking for part‑time Respite Providers to offer respite care services in the Burlington area (Lee, Henry, Van Buren, Des Moines, Mahaska, and/ or Monroe counties). The purpose of respite care is to give parents or primary caregivers a break from the daily responsibilities of caring for a child or adult with a disability.

Prospective providers should be passionate, have good communication skills, and be disciplined enough to set their own schedule. Hours may flex according to the family's needs; some evenings or weekend hours may be requested. The position also has the potential to be performed from home after a probationary period.

Ideal for college students or those seeking a second job, this role builds work‑related experience. Candidates must have basic computer skills and access to a laptop/tablet and/or smartphone.

DUTIES Provide all care required to a child or adult with a disability while their parent or guardian is absent, maintaining a safe and nurturing home‑based environment. Special consideration may be given to applicants requested by the client or their family. If not requested, providers will be matched with approved clients and may work in the client’s home, community, or the provider’s own home. Hours are not guaranteed or set; a provider may work a few hours one day and then have no work for several weeks or months. Respite is often provided in the afternoons, evenings, and on weekends.

High school diploma or GED.

Experience working with people with disabilities preferred.

Basic computer skills required for timekeeping and documentation; computer and internet access needed.

Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, a good driving record, and ability to pass an extensive background check (including Dependent Adult and Child Abuse registries, Sex Offender registry, and criminal history check).
