General Description The Bus Monitor works under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, and may be assigned to drive a white fleet vehicle in support of Transportation Operations.
Responsibilities
Assist in maintaining discipline and attending to student needs on assigned bus routes.
Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
Assist the Bus Driver, as needed, in reporting behavioral or mechanical issues.
Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports as requested by administration.
Maintain appropriate relations with parents, school personnel, and students.
Notify the Transportation Supervisor/front office of the need for a substitute in advance.
Report all complaints to the Transportation Supervisor.
Assist in keeping buses clean.
Drive a white fleet vehicle in support of Transportation Operations (e.g., transporting students covered by the McKinney‑Vento Act, delivering referrals, or lost items).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years old.
High School diploma or equivalent (Preferred).
Valid Texas driver’s license with a driving record that meets District requirements.
If you have a CDL license, you must register through the Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Ability to pass a criminal background check.
Must pass a pre‑employment physical examination.
Ability to follow verbal instructions, operate safety/adaptive equipment, and work with students with disabilities.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control; communicate effectively; maintain effective control over groups of students; handle mentally/physically challenged students and life‑threatening emergencies.
Physical Demands: Frequent walking, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; moderate lifting and carrying; works inside and outside, around machinery with moving parts and vehicles; exposure to extreme temperatures and vehicle fumes.
