Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary Tidewater Community College (TCC) is seeking an experienced CBORD Access Systems Specialist to provide expert technical support and guidance for the college’s access control infrastructure. The specialist will ensure that all electronic door systems are properly configured and functioning, identify and resolve any operational issues, and develop a long-term plan to maintain and improve access control reliability and security across TCC Campuses. On-site work required at various Tidewater Community College facilities.

This is a limited-term, project-based position expected to conclude after one year.

Functional Responsibilities

Assess the current configuration and performance of the college’s CBORD access control system.

Verify that all doors and related components are properly integrated, configured, identified, labeled, and operational.

Troubleshoot and resolve system and hardware issues affecting door access and security functions.

Coordinate with Facilities, IT, Installation Contractors and Campus Security teams to ensure alignment on system operations and maintenance.

Develop documentation and provide recommendations for improving system reliability and performance.

Create a long-term maintenance and sustainability plan for access control operations at TCC.

Provide limited on-site staff training or knowledge transfer as needed to support continuity.

Audit patron group access and map out access control locations college wide.

Transition from patron group access to “Flag” access for specific needs.

Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with CBORD access control systems (or similar enterprise-level systems).

Strong knowledge of access control hardware (such as V series squadron devices, mercury devices, and HID readers), electronic door systems, and related security infrastructure.

Familiarity with system networking, CS Gold Application configuration, and hardware integration principles.

Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Effective communication and documentation abilities.
