Responsibilities
The Insurance Verification Representative is responsible for verification of benefits for all hospital patients, arranging for the efficient and orderly pre‑admission of inpatients and outpatients, and appropriate follow up for emergency department admissions. Ensures that patient information is collected and that patients are aware of hospital policies and procedures.
Interviews incoming patient or representatives and enters information required for admission into a computer database.
Distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments.
Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.
Demonstrates knowledge of hospital policy related to emergency preparedness, fire, hazardous materials and waste, medical equipment, safety, security and utilities.
Utilizes standard precautions; complies with OSHA standards pursuant to blood borne pathogen, tuberculosis and hazardous materials.
Reports safety and risk issues; completes incident reports as appropriate.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent
Basic knowledge of insurance billing required
Ability to type 40 wpm comprehensive general clerical skills and computer literacy required
Medical terminology required
