Base Pay Range $50,902.00/yr - $55,585.00/yr
Overview Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled tasks and operates a variety of tools, equipment and vehicles used in the maintenance, repair and construction of sewers and structures.
Essential Functions
Clean sewer pipes, inlets, other MSD assets, and creeks. Investigate customer complaints and take corrective action.
Repair, rebuild and/or replace sewer pipes, inlets, manholes, and catch basins.
Locate and mark MSD assets, as needed.
Interface with computerized maintenance management and mapping systems; enter data and provide updates and referrals for all computer‑generated work orders and service requests (Maximo).
Operate a variety of common and specialty vehicles and equipment and a variety of specialty and hand tools.
Enter structures as necessary to remove debris, investigate assets, repair deficiencies, and install equipment.
Transport materials, tools, and equipment to jobsite.
Place and remove shoring from excavations.
Mix mortar and concrete, and hod bricks to assist bricklayer.
Perform manual back‑filling and proper compaction, and assist in restoring concrete or asphalt pavements damaged by excavations.
Repair or replace fences, landscaping, trees, shrubbery, and sod, etc.
Meet the requirements of the training program as set forth by the Collection Systems Apprenticeship agreement.
Additional Responsibilities May operate various motor vehicles, pumps, demolition saws and other power‑driven equipment. May perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.

Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED.
Ability to attain a passing grade on a written test of related skills/aptitude to enter a three‑year MSD Collection Systems Apprenticeship Training Program.
Must have a Class A Commercial Driver's Permit at time of hire that includes General Knowledge, Combination, Air Brake Endorsement, and Tanker Endorsement.
Must obtain, within the first 8 months of employment, a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with combination, tanker, and air‑brake endorsements issued by the state in which the employee resides. The license must be maintained at all times following issuance.
Must be available to work overtime when requested.

Working knowledge of safe work practices.
Working knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in vehicle operations.

Ability to operate a limited variety of other mechanical equipment.
Ability to prepare simple records and reports.
Ability to read, comprehend and pass exams given on training program materials and manuals.
Special Requirements Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state in which the employee resides. Pursuant to MSD's "Substance Abuse Policy and Procedures," this position has been designated as safety sensitive. Candidates who do not possess a Class A Commercial Permit at the time of job offer must pass a Non‑DOT Drug Test; when the Commercial Driver's License is obtained, they will be required to pass a Federal (DOT) Drug Test. Candidates who do possess a Commercial Driver's License at the time of job offer must pass a DOT Drug Test for this position. Employees occupying this position with a Commercial Driver's License are subject to Federal (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulations. All current employees must have a "Meets Expectations" or "Proficient" rating on their most recent performance evaluation to be eligible.
