Lean System Facilitator – Wellstar Health System
Location: Marietta, GA
Job Summary In developing the infrastructure for a robust program that supports the health and well‑being of our clinical workforce, the Lean System Facilitator is a critical member of the Office of Clinician Well‑Being (OCW). Reporting to the Director of Operations (OCW) with a dotted line to the AVP of Wellstar’s Lean Transformation Office (LTO), the facilitator leverages lean processes to reduce waste, improve life‑work integration, and support a culture of well‑being across our clinician workforce. The role utilizes tools such as A3s, Value Stream Mapping, PDSA cycles, 5S, and others to guide improvement work and demonstrate results.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
Measuring, Analyzing, Improving, & Sustaining Process Changes
Develop clear project A3 scoping.
Work with initiative A3 teams to quantify baselines.
Facilitate development of countermeasures.
Consult on change‑management approaches and measure change.
Refine countermeasures to improve outcomes.
Summarize A3 improvements.
Consult with leaders to present outcomes to teams, demonstrating success.
Monitor improvement longitudinally.
Utilize escalation plans when project timelines or outcomes risk.
Coalition & Team Building
Identify stakeholders involved in change processes.
Align stakeholders through Initiative Process Owners.
Identify team dynamics that may interfere with success and escalates.
Coach project leaders on team‑oriented methods.
Lead analysis of problem to identify contributors and root causes.
Communicate progress, critical factors, and obstacles to process owners.
Anticipate and track ROI of projects.
Defining Problems
Conduct needs assessments with stakeholders.
Identify problems related to inefficiency, waste, etc.
Refine problem definition to manage scope creep.
Develop checklists, roadmaps, standard‑work instructions, and job aids.
Teaching / Mentoring / Coaching
Internal consultant for OCW to maximize efficiency.
Work with initiative committee chairs to develop efficient meetings.
Serve as advisor on Physician Well‑Being Council.
Participate in design and planning of new OCW initiatives.
Prepare articles for newsletters and present outcomes at meetings.
Collaborate on scholarly articles.
Other
Attend monthly system Lean meetings.
Meet with executive Lean leadership for mentoring.
Perform other duties as assigned and comply with Wellstar policies.
Required Minimum Education
Bachelor’s in Business Administration/Management, Engineering, Health Administration, or Health Science.
Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications
All certifications required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
CSSBB – Six Sigma Black Belt – preferred.
Required Minimum Experience
Minimum 5 years of work experience.
Minimum 3 years in healthcare.
Experience managing others.
Minimum 2 years of leading process improvement initiatives in a healthcare organization.
Required Minimum Skills
Basic Lean/Quality Improvement subject‑matter expertise (PDSA, visual management, check sheet, histogram, Pareto, run chart, leading/lagging measures, cause‑and‑effect diagrams, standard work).
Experience coaching and mentoring others.
Strong interpersonal style to establish credibility.
Ability to influence positive change across functional areas.
Data collection, analysis, and concise presentation skills.
Formulate actionable plans aligned with strategic initiatives.
Well‑organized, disciplined, persistent.
Creative problem‑solving and initiative to lead change.
Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
