Overview The Dance Team Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in developing individual talent and overseeing team instruction. The role includes coordinating weekly rehearsals, ensuring choreography/stage work for new routines, promoting the team at athletic events, and maintaining safety standards during practices and performances.

Responsibilities

Coordinate weekly rehearsals.

Communicate with the Head Coach, team members, and leadership to ensure team success.

Provide choreography for the team or coordinate external choreography with the Head Coach.

Attend all game‑day performances (home football games, basketball games, etc.).

Support recruitment and publicity efforts for the team.

Present at all practices and performances and enforce Bentley University safety standards.

Manage student participants, reinforcing commitment to academic standards while balancing team responsibilities.

Assist in preparing the Game Day Dance Team (15‑20 students) and advising the full Dance Team (30‑40 students).

Travel for practices and competitions, including weekend and out‑of‑town performances.

Other Duties

Maintain balance between team needs and student’s academic commitments.

Collaborate with the Head Coach and e‑board members on team matters.

Participate in camps or Nationals if the team schedules attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Minimum 1 year of experience coaching or instructing dance at a level comparable to a university club sport program.

Prior experience working with higher education undergraduates or adolescent/young adult populations (school, camp, etc.).

Experience coaching dance and supporting skill development of individuals and teams.

Knowledge of instruction and choreography.

First Aid and CPR training required.

Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license with an insurable driving history (per Bentley’s insurance carrier).

Work Environment

Must be present at all practices and performances.

Navigate and maintain calm during high‑energy situations such as competitions.

Travel to practices, competitions, and off‑campus events as required.

Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and e‑board members.

Physical Demands

Must be able to perform dance instruction and choreography; good physical condition and ability to instruct are required.

Pay Transparency This position offers a fixed hourly rate of $17.00, paid for hours worked during the designated seasonal schedule.
