Field Services Materials Specialist

role is located on‑site at our customer’s facility and is essential to maintaining the reliability of locomotive fleets.

Responsibilities

Pull material from the warehouse for shop use and issue it to the correct locomotive with complete information (position, serial number, removal reason, service sheet).

Manage stockouts weekly, including updating ETAs for parts that are out of stock or low on stock.

Perform inventory management via cycle counts and coordinate the annual physical inventory.

Forecast material needs for inbound and in‑shop locomotives and pull in any needed material in a timely and cost‑efficient manner.

Conduct quality control on inbound and outbound shipments, checking documents for discrepancies and resolving potential transportation delays or conflicts.

Arrange LTL and expedite shipments using the Ryder portal, ensuring correct paperwork is attached and customs documents are obtained when required.

Use multiple software programs to order, receive, ship, and track material, including Hazmat material with appropriate shipping documents.

Compile inventory metrics reports and process sales of material by receiving and closing purchase orders.

Retrieve repair‑cycled assets from the shop floor and process them in Oracle to ensure rapid return to stock.

Restock warehouse and shop floor material, perform general housekeeping, maintenance, and organization of the warehouse.

Process warranty claims on removed cores that are warranty eligible and work with suppliers on core credits where necessary.

Perform daily counts of large commodity assets, verifying serial number and size for both FGI and repair cycle assets.

Qualifications

High school diploma, GED, or at least 1‑3 years of recent relevant work experience. Degree preferred.

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Ability and willingness to lift up to 40 lbs. regularly.

Previous experience in a logistics or shipping/receiving work environment.

Experience operating forklifts and other shop equipment safely.

High level of attention to detail while juggling multiple duties.

Ability to work in a warehouse/heavy shop environment.

Flexibility to work various shifts, days, and an overtime schedule as required.

Reliable and predictable attendance.

Positive attitude, teamwork orientation, and strong communication skills.

Accuracy and meticulousness in all tasks.

Physical Demands

Safety awareness and a strong safety culture.

Stand for long periods of time.

Walk on hard and sometimes uneven surfaces throughout the day.

Walk up and down stairs.

Wear required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day.

Speak and hear normally.

Operate a computer (typical MS Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Teams).

Experience in Oracle/SAP or other inventory control systems.

DOT/TDG Shipping Course Certification is a plus.

Ability to obtain Wabtec’s Level 1 Materials Certification within 12‑18 months of hire.

Additional hours or overtime may be requested.
