Assistant Nurse Manager Acute Care Evening/Nights 9p-7a

position. The role works the night shift (9 p.m.–7 a.m.) and oversees leadership on several medical‑surgical, telemetry, and critical care units. The candidate will coordinate with the House Supervisor on night‑shift priorities, mentor staff, and support the nurse manager in achieving clinical and financial goals.

Work Shift Night shift (United States of America), 10‑hour shifts Monday‑Sunday, rotating with other ANMs.

Job Summary The assistant nurse manager is a registered professional nurse who provides support and works in conjunction with the nurse manager of a specific unit or service. He/She is an aspiring nurse manager, learning additional knowledge and skills through experience and mentoring by the nurse manager and the hospital/system. The assistant nurse manager possesses strong communication and teamwork skills, serves as a mentor for others, and actively leads staff in their daily activities. He/She helps hold staff accountable for the delivery of care, assists with budget development, and plays a key role in staff recruitment, mentoring, and retention.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Engage staff in decision‑making via shared governance processes and promote patient‑centered care.

Represent the organization positively to the community and be a member of a professional organization.

Support the charge nurse and other nurse leaders on the unit to ensure effective operation of the care delivery system.

Assist with budget development and monitor fiscal outcomes for the work unit; apply lean and quality skills to reduce waste and improve performance.

Effectively communicate with a diverse workforce and mentor others to progress in nursing management.

Create opportunities for self and staff to grow and implement a safe, desirable workplace that promotes recruitment and retention.

Promote staff competency in clinical care delivery and uphold the highest professional and ethical standards.

Collaborate with nurse managers to employ change‑management strategies and cultivate curiosity for new knowledge and ideas.

Represent the organization positively to the community and to members of the professional community.

Promote evidence‑based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement; participate in activities such as value analysis.

Identify areas of performance improvement for staff and clinical systems, supporting projects that exceed licensure, regulatory, and accreditation standards.

Required Minimum Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing

Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications

Registered Nurse (RN) – Single State or RN‑COMPACT – Multi‑State Compact

Basic Life Support (BLS) or BLS‑I – Basic Life Support Instructor

Additional Certifications Preferred

National certification in nursing administration (upon hire preferred)

Required Minimum Experience Minimum 3 years of clinical experience.

Required Minimum Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and relationship building.

Desire to pursue progressive nursing management roles and coach/mentor others.

Continuous learner who seeks to better understand health‑care financing, strategy, operations, and data‑driven decision‑making.

Interest and aptitude in risk management, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
