Responsibilities
Initial review of loan documents and engagement documents from client and preparation of internal summary sheet, checklist, and summary e-mails for client and defeasance consultant
Organize and maintain electronic deal folder for easy access by attorney
Work with staff to prepare and organize draft e-mails for attorney revision and circulation
Prepare first draft of defeasance documents using HotDocs Author program
Work with staff to review title commitment, and draft or review mortgage release, UCC terminations, and closing instruction letter. Provide initial drafts to title company following attorney review and communicate with title company regarding questions and issues
Preliminary review of borrower’s due diligence items, including accounting report, organizational documents, and legal opinions to expedite attorney review
Preliminary review of client case memorandum to expedite attorney review
Track closing deliverables and update closing checklist in Project Fortress
Work with staff to review signature packets and prepare list of outstanding items to be included with signature packet e-mails
Become proficient in Project Fortress, including updating transaction checklist and utilizing AI features
Finalize defeasance documents and closing instruction letter, and assist with defeasance circling and closing
Draft and electronically file defeasance UCCs following defeasance closing
Work with staff to finalize, assemble, and review final defeasance documents in advance of attorney review for circulation to all parties on day of closing
Organize deliverables and follow up to obtain closing documentation for closing binder
Review final completed closing binder
Become proficient in the Hot Docs Author program to code defeasance documents and continue to make changes for additional efficiency and to address new issues
Serve as a liaison between the Project Fortress team and the Defeasance team to continue tailoring Project Fortress to the defeasance process and to utilize Project Fortress AI, and assist in training the defeasance team on new uses of Project Fortress
Work with team members to train staff, ensure defeasance process is standardized, and assist with updating forms and memos to address new issues
Assist attorneys and other team members as requested
Computer applications used: Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Kofax, iManage, Project Fortress, HotDocs
Requirements
Paralegal Certificate or related degree preferred
5 years’ Experience
Billable requirement:1600 hours per year
5 days in-office first 3 months then hybrid 2 days remote/3 days in office
Start time for this role will be either 8:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m. (Work day hours Monday to Thursday 7.75 hours and Friday 7.5 hours plus overtime when necessary)
Compensation Up to $100,000.00, plus overtime.
