The Victoria Area Office is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Transportation Engineer III or IV. In this position you will gain valuable experience in project management, construction methods to build roadways, bridges, and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications. You will handle contract administration, change order evaluations, dispute resolution, and oversee the planning, design, and construction of multiple projects. Transportation Engineer III:

$76,530 – $129,430 Transportation Engineer IV:

Assist Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters. Demonstrate and enforce the TxDOT Safety Culture at all times. Oversee construction project traffic control plans and review traffic control devices with Area Engineers. Issue work orders, monitor construction schedules, contractor payments, and job progress on construction projects. Analyze and assist in resolution of contract problems and disputes. Conduct pre-construction meetings. Serve as a lead worker and related tasks. Monitor contractors' compliance with plans and specifications. Resolve differences between contractors and inspectors. Review shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests. Drive/travel to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests, and to provide technical support. Assist in providing recommendations to the Motor Carrier Division for routing of overload vehicles. Utilize project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing complex transportation projects. Assess and report actual project progress versus planned progress to determine trends and variances for complex projects. Perform data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development. Transportation Engineer IV – Additional Duties

Make presentations and represent TxDOT. Conduct final inspections on completed construction projects. Assist in recommending major maintenance and betterment programs to district staff. Communicate and coordinate with local stakeholders and elected officials when projects impact their jurisdiction. Work with governmental officials on behalf of the Area Engineer. Minimum Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science. A higher degree is accepted by TX PELS. Experience

Transportation Engineer III – 6 years of experience; Transportation Engineer IV – 7 years of experience. Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent. Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis. Licenses & Certifications

Valid driver’s license and a state vehicle. Licensed Professional Engineer. Safety Impact Certification. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Light work: lift up to 20 lbs and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs. Repetitive motion – substantial movements of wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Subject to inside/outside environmental conditions. Hazards – moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals. Pre‑Employment Physical & Safety Impact Position
