Summary
The Business Development Manager (BDM) for The Shaw Group’s Module Business Unit is responsible for driving growth across the company’s modular fabrication operations – with a particular focus on identifying, qualifying, and supporting modular opportunities through Shaw’s US Module Business.
This role supports the Head of Sales and collaborates closely with Strategic Account Managers and Directors to advance new business, manage pre-contract activities, and serve as a liaison between Strategic Account Managers, Estimating and Legal teams.
The ideal candidate is a proactive relationship builder who thrives on connecting with clients, identifying new opportunities, and translating customer needs into executable modular projects.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the U.S. Head of Sales and Strategic Account Managers to identify, qualify, and secure modular fabrication opportunities aligned with Beaumont yard capacity and strategic growth targets.
Conduct early vetting of potential projects – including commercial review, risk assessment and strategic fit.
Ensure all pre-contract activities comply with corporate commercial policies and governance.
Enter and manage opportunities in the CRM system to ensure accurate pipeline visibility and reporting.
Support pre-contract activities including proposal coordination, bid development, and interfacing between the sales, estimating, and legal teams on contract terms.
Coordinate with operations and project execution teams to ensure proposed scopes align with Shaw’s technical capabilities and schedule capacity.
Assist in drafting commercial exhibits, milestone payment schedules, and proposal documentation as needed.
Build and maintain strong relationships with EPCs, technology licensors, and project developers across the energy, chemical, and clean technology markets.
Source and develop new business through networking, prospecting, client meetings, trade events, and industry associations.
Identify long‑term growth opportunities and strategic partnerships that enhance Shaw’s presence in the modular market.
Regular travel to Shaw fabrication facilities and client sites to support project development, relationship management, and pre-contract activities.
Represent Shaw at conferences, customer visits, and other promotional events.
Partner with internal marketing team to enhance Shaw’s market visibility and reinforce brand positioning within the modular fabrication sector.
Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field.
Typically has a minimum of 5 years’ experience in business development, sales, or commercial management within the industrial construction, fabrication or modular assembly sectors.
Skills And Attributes
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels.
Excellent organizational and time management abilities to manage multiple concurrent opportunities.
Proficiency in CRM software (e.g., Zoho, Salesforce, or equivalent) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
Familiarity with EPC project structures, contract terms, and risk management principles.
Self‑motivated, entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on delivering results.
Physical Requirements
Ability to reach, stand, walk, grasp, feel, talk, hear, see and perform repetitive motions.
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
Must be capable of traveling by car or airplane as needed to support business activities.
