Responsibilities

Perform independent collections of samples of products or raw materials for laboratory analysis, following established protocols.

Gather, label, and document samples at specified locations, processing times, and delivery conditions.

Deliver samples to the laboratory for analysis.

Prepare, reduce, and divide samples to appropriate sizes.

Execute sample screening and related physical tests.

Maintain equipment and containers, ensuring cleanliness before and after use.

Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Adhere to local and federal safety processes during sampling.

Provide technical advice and support to field technicians and train junior staff as needed.

Act as Team Leader when the supervisor or manager is absent.

Train, motivate, and monitor staff during shifts.

Assist staff in completing tasks in line with work procedures.

Collaborate with other technicians to solve client problems and maintain quality and customer satisfaction.

Ensure staff have necessary information, resources, and materials for safe work.

Perform laboratory or preparation duties as required by business needs.

Maintain daily housekeeping and cleanliness in assigned area.

Conduct routine and non‑routine equipment maintenance.

Enforce safety equipment usage and procedures on site.

Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.

Carry out any additional duties assigned.

Qualifications Education and Experience

Associate degree or high school/ GED equivalent.

Experience in industrial, laboratory, or field services environments with strict safety standards.

Licenses / Certifications

Valid and current driver’s license (if required for company vehicle).

May be required to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card).

May be required to obtain a 24‑hour MSHA surface mine safety and health certificate; training available through SGS.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Proficient in English.

Strong mathematical abilities.

Advanced reasoning skills using logical and practical problem solving.

Effective written and verbal communication with internal and external customers.

Ability to follow directions and achieve accurate results within required timeframes.

Problem‑solving with concrete variables in standardized situations.

Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.

Independent work capability under moderate supervision.

Team‑player attitude with customer‑care focus.

Leadership capability for junior employees.

Computer Skills

Intermediate proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).

Travel

Local day travel may be required; may need to travel overnight occasionally.

Equipment

Standard office equipment: computers, printers, phones.

Sample preparation equipment: jaw crusher, bowl & disc pulverizing mills, pressure filters, riffle splitters, compressed air, hammer mill crushers, ovens, balances, basic sampling tools.

Work Conditions / Exposure to Environmental Conditions

Location: Portland, OR, United States.

Work Schedule

On‑call/flexible hourly schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Occasional overtime required.

Occasional wet or humid conditions.

Frequent work near moving mechanical parts.

Occasional work in high or precarious places.

Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles.

Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.

Noise Level Moderate noise (e.g., business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

Vision Requirements

Close vision at 20 inches/50 centimeters or less.

Distance vision at 20 feet/6 meters or more.

Peripheral vision for observing an area while eyes are fixed on a given point.

Depth perception for judging distance and three‑dimensional relationships.

Ability to adjust focus.

Color vision.

Auditory Requirements

Ability to hear equipment operating, alarms, traffic, telephones.
