Job Description Brink’s Global Services (BGS) is a division of Brink’s Inc, the world’s premier provider of secure logistics and security solutions in more than 122 countries across 5 continents. BGS specializes in the secure transportation and handling of valuable goods throughout the logistic value chain. The Shipping Manager leads the Shipping Team consisting of Customs Brokers, Customs Entry Specialists, and Import/Export Coordinators. The role processes and manages import/export shipments and all activities for U.S. Customs clearances, maintains communication with other departments, regulatory agencies, customers, and vendors, and ensures compliance with laws and regulations. The position is the primary day‑to‑day leader of the shipping team, developing staff, production, and service level.
Key Responsibilities
Develop brokerage business and build a high‑performing Customs Brokerage team.
Design and implement internal processes and develop subordinate staff.
Create customer solutions utilizing Customs privileges or improving current methods.
Ensure compliance with customs laws and regulations; prepare SOPs for brokerage, import, and export activities.
Process import/export documentation and other forms on behalf of clients.
Maintain awareness of customs compliance; communicate through training programs.
Sign transport documents with client power of attorney.
Advise clients on export/import restrictions, tariff systems, letters of credit, insurance, and duty/tax rates.
Prepare entry papers, file assessments, and provide valuation of merchandise.
Process post‑entry work (ruling requests, CF‑28s, refunds, protests, drawbacks).
Manage Foreign Trade Zone compliance.
Stay updated on all customs changes.
Lead import/export department to achieve higher ROI and workflow efficiency.
Build and maintain key airline relationships and negotiate best freight rates.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum 10 years of Customs Brokerage/freight forwarding/logistics experience.
Minimum 5 years of managing a Brokerage/Shipping department or equivalent.
U.S.‑licensed Customs Broker.
Expert regulatory compliance experience for import/export and air freight (IATA), trucking, Customs, other agencies.
Minimum 3 years of proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in freight or security transportation business.
Experience providing efficient customer service to import/export clients.
Knowledge of logistics operations, products, services, policies, and procedures.
Track record of driving collaboration and open communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Experience troubleshooting unexpected issues.
BS or BA degree in business or related field.
Professional Skills
High integrity aligning with company mission and leadership framework.
Self‑aware, self‑motivated, and comfortable operating with minimal direction.
Responsive, performance‑driven, translating vision into operational plans.
