Pay Rate $19.02 - $20.02 Per Hour

Job Summary And Purpose The Monitor is the entry‑level position that works to provide security of the program premises and safety for program clients, visitors and employees. Driving ability preferred.

Duties And Responsibilities

Shelter Security

Shelter Entrance Monitoring : The front door is the only permitted entrance; monitor and authorize entry and departure to guard against theft and maintain security.

Bag & Person Screening : Search all participants’ belongings on each entry to ensure safety and security.

Patrol premises to prevent and detect intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows and gates; make reports as needed.

Shelter Safety

Observe the shelter while patrolling; report and correct spills, unsafe conditions or defective equipment.

Know location of fire exits and assist participants in emergencies.

Monitor clients, conduct room checks, maintain records of compliance, and report to clinical/case staff.

Call police or fire department in emergencies such as fire or unauthorized persons.

Asset Protection

Protect the agency’s limited resources from theft or damage; report suspicious events to supervisor.

Complete written reports and incident logs of daily activities and irregularities.

Act as a role model for participants at all times.

Client/Participant Support

Answer telephones, take messages for clients and staff, and greet visitors.

Maintain office housekeeping; verify common areas, laundry areas and restrooms are clean and operational.

Assist shelter staff during client services, including meal preparation, medication monitoring, set‑up for classes, meetings, recreation and other events.

Driving Tasks (for licensed Monitors)

Transport participants to and from locations such as human service sites, work sites and medical facilities.

Assist passengers with wheelchairs, car seats and mobility devices.

Maintain safety, operate vehicle safely, record trip details and mileage.

Maintain vehicle in good condition and clean after each use; complete routine maintenance and repairs.

Essential Duties

Monitor shelter entrance and screen bags/persons.

Patrol premises as scheduled.

Conduct safety inspections and report concerns.

Complete written reports and incident logs.

Support clients and participants; drive them as directed.

Other duties as required.

Qualifications Requirements

Must pass a fingerprint clearance, background check (criminal history), personal references and employment/education verifications.

Education

Must complete VOALA safety training within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED.

Current California driver’s license with clean driving record and knowledge of CA driving laws.

Familiarity with databases.

Clean driving record for VOALA insurance purposes.
