Job Overview The Youth Program Assistant supports the IRC’s My New School after-school program at Freedom Middle School or Youth Future’s after-school program at Clarkston High School and IRC’s Summer Camp. The assistant works with program staff to provide high-quality support services to students attending after school and summer camp programs, including tutoring, academic support, and college prep with an emphasis on empowerment through a strengths-based approach. This is a part-time opportunity, hours 3:00 pm–6:00 pm, at least 3 days per week, Monday‑Friday.

Major Responsibilities

Assist in facilitating daily program activities, including workshops, literacy enrichment, social emotional learning, homework and academic support, and college and career preparation at Freedom MS or Clarkston HS after-school locations.

Assist with student supervision for daily program activities and field trips.

Support staff in recruiting after-school and summer camp students.

Support staff with case management, including conducting student check‑ins and helping students with homework and college preparation.

Provide general administrative support as needed, such as documentation and file maintenance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Work Experience:

Relevant professional experience in education or human services field preferred.

Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred.

Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:

Strong desire to support refugee and immigrant students and enthusiasm for working in a multi‑cultural setting.

Experience working with youth (specifically in a tutoring capacity) preferred.

Strong communication abilities.

Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired.

Excellent organizational skills.

An interest in social justice, education, and refugee issues.

Computer literacy, preferably with PC systems.

Comfortable accompanying youth program staff on home visits.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.

Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

Working Environment

A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and field time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

Occasional domestic (non‑local) travel required.

May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation Pay Range:

$17.80 - $19.40 per hour (posted pay ranges apply to U.S.–based candidates).
