About The Role We are seeking a Technical Business Development Manager to drive the growth of Soracom's global IoT connectivity business. This role will bridge technical expertise in mobile connectivity (SIM/eSIM/iSIM, 2G/3G/4G/LPWAN/5G, roaming, 3GPP/GSMA standards) with commercial strategy, pricing, procurement, supply‑chain management, vendor management, and business development.
You will be responsible for managing complex commercial negotiations, procurement strategies, vendor relationships, developing new connectivity capabilities, and coordinating the technical aspects of SIM or module‑related projects. As this role sits at the intersection of business and technology, a deep understanding of SIM/eSIM/Module/Cellular technologies, commercial models, and telecommunications industry practices is essential.
The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience from the MNO/MVNO or CSP/CMP or telecom sector, a strong commercial mindset, and the ability to coordinate across internal and external stakeholders in a fast‑paced, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead new business initiatives related to SIM/eSIM/iSIM and IoT connectivity
Conduct market and technology research on 3GPP/GSMA standards and global industry trends
Evaluate new technologies and connectivity architectures to drive product innovation
Develop technical–commercial proposals and business cases for new offerings
Vendor & Partner Management
Manage technical and commercial relationships with SIM/eSIM vendors
Review SIM vendor's product and technical roadmap
Conduct price negotiations, contract reviews, and cost optimization activities
Technical Collaboration with Module & Device Vendors
Collaborate with module vendors and device partners on technical interoperability and certification
Review module vendor's product and technical roadmap
Conduct technical assessments (interoperability with Soracom network, LPWAN features, roaming behavior) with colleagues
Support joint solution development and co‑marketing initiatives
Support for Reseller and OEM Partners
Provide technical and commercial support to reseller partners and OEMs
Deliver technical presentations, PoC support, and solution design guidance
Lead account management activities and build long‑term partner relationships
Collaborate with partners to design commercial models and go‑to‑market plans
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, and Support teams
Translate partner/market requirements into product/platform improvement proposals
Prepare documentation, best practices, and enablement materials for internal teams
Requirements Key Requirements / Qualifications
At least 10 years of experience in technical business development, procurement, or vendor management in the Telecom, MNO/MVNO, or IoT industries
Proven ability to manage commercial negotiations and contract discussions with global suppliers
Understanding of SIM/eSIM/eUICC technology and related telecom standards (e.g. GSMA, 3GPP, ETSI, Global Platform)
Understanding of Cellular technology and related telecom standards (e.g. GSMA, 3GPP)
Strong project management and cross‑functional coordination skills
Experience working with stakeholders in engineering, operations, product, and legal
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills
Analytical mindset with attention to detail and strong commercial awareness
Comfortable working remotely in a global, multicultural environment
Fluent in English, both spoken and written
Desirable Experience and Skills
Work experience in IoT industry
Familiarity with IoT module vendors
Experience working in a fast‑growing tech start‑up
Experience working with remote teams across different time zones
Exposure to RFQ/RFI/RFP processes and vendor evaluation frameworks
Location Fully remote, with base in the UK or Europe preferred.
