Responsibilities
Estimate shipping costs during the bid phase, including identifying the most optimal and cost‑effective shipping routes and opportunities for goods consolidation.
Create and maintain project shipping plans during execution, including coordination of Free‑Issued Parts (FIP).
Control and track shipping costs, comparing actual costs against planned and budgeted figures on a per‑project basis.
Coordinate with vendor logistics representatives regarding pickup schedules, packing lists, weights, dimensions, and other shipment details.
Manage freight procurement, including sending RFQs, negotiating with freight forwarders, and selecting the most competitive offers.
Issue shipping orders to selected freight forwarders and maintain accurate shipment logs.
Review and approve (or reject) freight forwarder invoices, as well as U.S. customs invoices, including those with new tariffs.
Communicate with customer logistics representatives to confirm delivery schedules, packing lists, and other shipping‑related information.
Track and follow up on shipping status of Primetals’ orders with vendors/suppliers.
Coordinate import and export customs clearances with customs brokers.
Create shipping documents (e.g., packing list, invoice, bills of lading, etc.) for import and export shipments.
Obtain HTS Code (Harmonized Tariff Schedule Number) and Country of Origin information from vendors/suppliers.
Input and maintain shipment and tracking information in the LMS system (e.g., Logistics Management System).
Work with vendors to resolve material discrepancies related to quantity ordered vs quantity shipped.
Interface with all departments (e.g., procurement, purchasing, sales, project management, etc.) and resolve problems and issues related with purchased items.
Obtain and provide material certificates as needed per shipment (e.g., wood certificates, certificate of origin, quality certificate, etc.).
Handle and support all shipping‑related claims.
Maintain record of shipping documents.
Monitor shipments from order entry through delivery to ensure on‑time delivery.
Education, Experience, Skills, Knowledge
Bachelor’s Degree, technical degree preferred.
Seven plus years of experience in international logistics (e.g., import/export of ocean freight and airfreight).
Extensive experience in developing shipping strategies and optimizing project logistics costs across road, air, containerized, and over‑dimensional/over‑weight sea freight.
Strong knowledge of international customs clearance processes and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated history of driving operational efficiency by identifying and implementing optimal, cost‑effective solutions.
Skilled in negotiating frame agreements with freight forwarders and individual carriers to secure competitive rates and service levels.
In‑depth knowledge of the global cargo market and key industry players across trucking, inland waterways, rail, ocean, and air freight.
Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Access).
Experience with Logistics and ERP Systems.
Ability to handle multiple shipments and projects at the same time.
Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers, project managers, and engineers.
