The City of Chandler Community Services Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Parks Maintenance Lead. This position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Current City of Chandler employees may only hold one position and are not eligible for additional part‑time or secondary positions within the City of Chandler.

About the Community Services Department The Community Services Department enhances the quality of life in Chandler through a vast provision of diverse and affordable educational and recreational experiences. We create community through people, parks, and programs, connecting people to lifelong learning through community libraries and providing at least one neighborhood park per square mile of residential development.
About the Parks Operations Division The Parks Operations Division, consisting of 55 employees, serves a growing and diverse population of 269,123 residents. It manages over 1,500 acres of parks, fields, playgrounds, courts, trails, and special recreational sites, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well maintained.
Who We Are Looking For Our new team member will have a passion for customer service, teamwork, and collaboration. We are looking for someone to lead, perform, and oversee semi‑skilled and skilled level landscaping and sports field maintenance.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee landscaping and sports field maintenance operations.
Manage crew scheduling, task allocation, and safety compliance.
Maintain equipment and perform routine maintenance to ensure operational readiness.
Implement turf maintenance practices such as aeration, top‑dressing, overseeding, fertilization, and soil amendment applications.
Mentor and develop team members, fostering accountability and supporting staff growth.
Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma or GED.
Three years of experience in grounds maintenance.
Valid B‑3 Right‑of‑Way/Weed Management State of Arizona Office of Pest Management Certification within six months of hire or promotion.
Valid B‑5 Turf & Ornamental Horticulture Pest Management State of Arizona Office of Pest Management Certification within six months of hire or promotion.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Desired Qualifications
Proven experience maintaining high‑use sports fields, including baseball, softball, soccer, football, and multipurpose turf.
Strong knowledge of turf management practices, such as aeration, top‑dressing, overseeding, fertilization, and soil amendment applications.
Proficiency in operating and maintaining specialized sports field equipment, including reel and rotary mowers, aerators, verticutters, de‑thatchers, top‑dressers, infield groomers, and line striping machines.
Hands‑on experience with infield maintenance, including grading, edging, moisture management, lip removal, and mound and plate repair.
Experience mentoring and developing team members, fostering accountability, and supporting staff growth.
This is a regular full‑time position subject to a six‑month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for four months should another position become available.
The City of Chandler will conduct a driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
