Mobile Trailer Technician Under general supervision, this position acts as a subject matter expert for Trailer Technicians. You are responsible for performing complex maintenance, service, and repair of J.B. Hunt trailers, containers, chassis, and other equipment. You must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and complete all fleet maintenance processes for units to meet J. B. Hunt specifications at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Perform complex diagnostics, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance tasks including tire replacements, flat repairs, brake repairs, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on tractor and trailer equipment; oversee recall campaigns and sign off on completion.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair ABS systems and specialized equipment such as refrigerated units, lift gates, and frame alignment.

Mentor new technician trainees; act as team lead to coordinate shift support and tasks.

Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard.

Operate assigned service truck and maintain parts inventory.

Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.

Document damage to company equipment to estimate repair costs.

Use a cutting torch and welding equipment to perform mid‑level repairs on chassis, frames, and other equipment.

Patch holes in trailer or container side panels and roofs, ensuring all holes are sealed and water‑tight.

Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections and sign off.

Shift Schedule Shifts may vary based on location and business needs. Technicians can gain new skills through J.B. Hunt’s Technician Career Advancement (TCA) program.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000 lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000 lbs, with 3 years of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent experience.

Demonstrated skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences.

Clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines.

Ability to supply basic tools or purchase through the toolbox purchase program.

Willingness to work outdoors in the elements.

Willingness to work across multiple shifts, including nights and weekends.

DOT‑certified in FHWA inspections and air brakes.

Preferred Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 3 years of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, and/or military equivalent experience.

Welding certification.

Forklift certification and experience.

EPA section 608 certification and Refrigeration License.

Effective transmission of ideas through various mediums.

Ability to manage multiple priorities.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Proficient computer skills and working with Microsoft Office suite.

Efficient use of time and resources.

Physical capability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).

Compensation The expected starting pay range for this position is $24.58 – $35.59 per hour. This role may be eligible for an annual bonus and incentives based on profitability and volume.

Relocation Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates located outside a 50‑mile radius of the job.
