Job Title: Swim Coach
Reports To: Athletic Director
Location: Southfield A & T High School
Start Date: November 2025 – March 2026
Salary: $4,200 stipend per SEA/CBA paid at the end of the season
Job Summary:
The Swimming Coach is responsible for organizing, directing, and supervising the school's swimming program in accordance with district policies and state athletic association guidelines. The coach promotes student‑athlete growth and development, fosters a positive team culture, and ensures safety, sportsmanship, and academic balance for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and supervise all phases of the swimming program, including tryouts, practices, and competitions.
Teach proper swimming techniques, conditioning, and stroke development while emphasizing safety and injury prevention.
Develop daily, weekly, and seasonal practice plans that promote athlete improvement and team success.
Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school administration regarding schedules, expectations, and program needs.
Model and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect at all times.
Ensure all athletes meet eligibility requirements as set by the school, district, and state association.
Maintain accurate attendance records, equipment inventory, and meet results.
Coordinate the use of pool facilities and ensure the equipment is safe and properly maintained.
Collaborate with assistant coaches, athletic trainers, and school staff to support student‑athlete well‑being.
Represent the school positively at all meets, conferences, and related events.
Qualifications
Previous competitive swimming and/or coaching experience required (high school/club or higher level required).
Knowledge of swimming techniques, rules, and safety regulations.
CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certification (or willingness to obtain prior to season).
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to motivate student‑athletes and maintain discipline and fairness.
Must meet all district, state, and MHSAA (or applicable governing body) coaching certification requirements.
Base Pay Range:
$4,200.00/yr – $4,200.00/yr
