Position Information
Job Title: Middle School Sideline/Competitive Cheer Coach (EXTERNAL). Location: District Wide Athletics, Southfield Public Schools. Reports To: Building Principal/Athletic Director. Employment Type: Full-time. Seniority Level: Entry level. Job Function: Education and Training; Industries: Education Administration Programs. Pay and Stipend
Base pay range: $700.00 per hour (stipend of $700 per hour per the SEA CBA). Start Date: December 3, 2025 – End Date: February 14, 2026. Job Summary
The Cheer Coach is responsible for organizing, planning, and leading the middle school cheerleading program. The coach teaches cheers, stunts, and dance routines; promotes school spirit; ensures safety; fosters teamwork, discipline, and leadership. Works closely with the athletic department, school administration, and parents to support athletic events, competitions, and school functions. Key Responsibilities
Plan and conduct practices focused on cheer techniques, stunting, tumbling, and> Lead the cheer team in promoting school spirit at games, pep rallies, and special events while engaging the crowd. Choreograph routines for halftime shows, assemblies, and competitions. Maintain safety standards and regulations for cheering and tumbling, emphasizing safety during stunts and tumbling activities. Model and promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and mutual respect; treat every player with dignity. Promote a positive team culture, including sportsmanship, building trust, responsibility, and leadership. Ensure all participants meet eligibility, academic, and attendance requirements. Support player development by ensuring every athlete has an opportunity to cheer in every game. Manage uniforms and equipment. Maintain open and professional communication with Middle School AD, student‑athletes, parents, and school staff; conduct parental meetings. Supervise athletes during all practices, games, competitions, and travel. Model professional behavior, integrity, and ethical coaching standards. Support and enforce all school, district, and league policies. Qualifications
Prior experience as a cheer coach at the elementary or club level required. Creative and energetic. Safety‑conscious and detail‑oriented. Knowledge of cheer techniques, stunts, and performance skills. Ability to demonstrate skills and drills to athletes. Must pass all required background checks. Strong leadership, organizational, supervisory, and communication abilities. Ability to inspire and motivate confidence in student-athletes by fostering positive emotions such as enthusiasm, joy, and excitement, which contribute to enhanced performance and overall team morale.
