Position Summary Under the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day site operations, including supervising warehousing, receiving, and shipping of product in accordance with company service and cost objectives. The role involves planning inbound and outbound volume, customer communication, space utilization and equipment management. People management responsibilities include hiring and training, labor planning, performance appraisals, issue resolution, and problem solving. The manager is expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety, and quality and to comply with all corporate and site‑specific policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment and products safely and profitably.
Manage operations to meet prescribed productivity and service goals, complying with client SLAs.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and generate ideas for efficient operations and ongoing cost savings.
Meet all client‑specified KPIs and comply with quality system requirements.
Use sound communication and motivational techniques to supervise fairly and equitably, advise and discipline team members as needed.
Collaborate with Human Resources on hiring, training, professional development and performance evaluation decisions.
Deliver results by leveraging the right people at the right time.
Inform senior management and clients of critical operational issues.
Plan daily work schedules based on work orders and customer instructions, assess priorities, and assign duties to warehouse staff.
Review volume demands to plan warehouse space reorganization and adjust staffing, supplies and equipment accordingly.
Management Information Systems
Ensure all team members are trained and efficient in required information systems (including WMS).
Coordinate purchase of computer software and hardware per Corporate IT policies.
Stay knowledgeable on hardware and software technology changes.
Develop proficiency in client systems.
Customer Management
Maintain high level of customer service standards across all functions.
Ensure client accounts receive required operational and administrative support.
Maintain appropriate contacts and respond to requests.
Lead or attend meetings with key customers to discuss issues.
Coordinate supplier/customer visits.
Promote positive client relationships through excellent service.
Budgeting & Financials
Support development of annual operating budget.
Implement controls to meet service, cost, revenue and profit targets.
Ensure budgeting and pricing activities comply with contract guidelines.
Equipment & Facilities
Maintain sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping and equipment standards (including MHE).
Ensure team members are trained on MHE.
Stay informed of new technology and recommend improvements.
Safety
Achieve company safety goals by fostering a proactive safety culture.
Audit warehouse for compliance with safety, security and quality principles.
Adhere to federal, state and statutory health and safety requirements.
Other Duties
Work overtime as required by business needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manage warehouse operations supervisors and support staff.
Skills & Abilities Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
7 years of experience in logistics/distribution or related environment.
5 years in a supervisory role.
Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures (mild to moderate).
Computer Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience with WMS systems.
Language Skills
English reading, writing and verbal fluency.
Business communication proficiency at all levels.
Other
Strong attention to detail and timely task completion.
Good organizational and personnel skills.
Strong written and oral communication.
Leadership, supervision and planning skills.
Flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as required.
