Responsibilities

Support and assist in performing preventive maintenance and repairs on scientific equipment across the College of Medicine. Responsible for equipment diagnosis, repair, and maintenance, data collection, and assisting with equipment installation and tracking.

Perform preventive maintenance on scientific equipment, including daily inspections of common-use equipment. Support troubleshooting and resolution of equipment issues. Assist with cleaning and maintaining freezers, DI water filtration systems, and microscopes. Stock dry ice and maintain liquid nitrogen tanks for cryo-bank storage.

Develop a working knowledge of lab equipment, functions, and maintenance requirements. Build an understanding of fundamentals of equipment repair, maintenance, and diagnosis with a focus on safety. Create instructional documentation and safety signage to guide faculty, staff, and students in proper use of lab equipment. Ensure equipment-related safety procedures are followed, working closely with the department to maintain compliance with university and regulatory safety standards. Assist in communicating with vendors and manufacturers to obtain parts quotes and repair instructions. Support coordination with external service providers for equipment repairs and maintenance.

Assist with relocation of equipment within lab spaces. Update shared equipment locations for researcher use. Install and set-up new equipment, ensuring proper setup and functionality under supervision.

Assist with emergency responses that occur during or after regular work hours in support of scientific equipment in the COM laboratories and research facilities.

Assist with projects such as lab cleanouts, equipment disposal, and inventory tracking.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to six years. (Note: post‑high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

Valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or ability to obtain one prior to hire.

Ability to move up to 20 lbs.
