Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance on scientific equipment, including daily inspections of common-use equipment.
Support troubleshooting and resolution of equipment issues, assist with cleaning and maintaining freezers, DI water filtration systems, and microscopes.
Responsible for stocking dry ice and maintaining liquid nitrogen tanks for cryo-bank storage.
Develop a working knowledge of lab equipment, their functions, and maintenance requirements, and build an understanding of the fundamentals of equipment repair, maintenance, and diagnosis with a focus on safety.
Create instructional documentation and safety signage to guide faculty, staff, and students in the proper use of lab equipment, ensuring equipment-related safety procedures are followed and maintaining compliance with university and regulatory safety standards.
Assist in communicating with vendors and manufacturers to obtain parts quotes and repair instructions, and coordinate with external service providers for equipment repairs and maintenance.
Assume responsibility for relocation of equipment within lab spaces and updating shared equipment locations for researcher use.
Assist with installation and set‑up of new equipment, ensuring proper setup and functionality under supervision.
Assist with emergency responses that occur during or after regular work hours in support of scientific equipment in the COM laboratories and research facilities.
Assist with projects such as lab cleanouts, equipment disposal, and inventory tracking.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and two years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to six years (post‑high‑school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate).
Valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain one prior to hire.
Ability to move up to 20 lbs.
