Job Description
Coordinator of Student Engagement will develop, organize, and deliver programs and initiatives to enhance student life and university experience. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement and is responsible for coordinating programs that align with the Office of Student Engagement's (OSE) goals and initiatives. The role works across all areas of Student Engagement, including civic engagement, volunteerism, student organization advising, and programming and involvement. The Coordinator will have the opportunity to supervise student employees. The Student Engagement team collaborates on large-scale programs and campus traditions such as Week of Welcome, USF Week, and Campus Involvement & Leadership Awards. The Coordinator may serve as representative on committees and councils on behalf of the Sarasota‑Manatee campus student engagement team. Some evening or weekend hours are required.
Responsibilities Programming and Involvement Work collaboratively with the Office of Student Engagement team to create and implement co‑curricular programming addressing the needs and interests of the student body, including large‑scale campus events, keynote student events, campus activities and traditions, and OneUSF initiatives. Implement a co‑curricular programming model based on the current needs of campus commuter and residential students. Coordinate with the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) and Center for Leadership & Civic Engagement (CLCE) (or equivalent) at the other USF campuses for any OneUSF needs or initiatives. Additionally, work with other campus Student Success staff for outreach events, such as orientation and admissions programs.
Civic Engagement and Volunteerism Provide direct oversight of the civic engagement and volunteer programming initiatives for the Sarasota‑Manatee campus. Provide opportunities for civic engagement and volunteerism, coordinating service projects and events based on student needs, interests, and availability. Advise and coordinate the Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program, recruit student participants, coordinate trip logistics, develop and implement pre‑trip program, and assess participant learning. Develop and maintain a database of local volunteer opportunities.
Student Clubs and Organizations Provide oversight of the day‑to‑day operations, event planning, conflict resolution, leadership, and teamwork of student clubs and organizations registered at the Sarasota‑Manatee campus. Provide mentorship and guidance to students and student leaders seeking to start a new student organization. Provide general support and guidance to registered student organizations (RSO) and student leaders throughout each academic year, host RSO trainings. Work with club advisors to ensure greater investment and involvement in club activities and events. Work with Recreation & Wellness on the coordination of the Sports Club program and process at the campus. Assess students’ learning through department‑wide learning outcomes and assessment efforts while gauging student concerns and interests.
Campus Activities Board Work with the Assistant Director to assist with advising the Campus Activities Board (CAB). Provide supervision, mentorship, and guidance to student workers, including hiring, training, professional development, and performance evaluation. The Coordinator will serve as co‑advisor and assist with advising CAB student leaders.
Qualifications
One year of experience working in a higher education setting.
Experience with event coordination.
Bachelor’s degree.
