TREATMENT SUPERVISOR (MSD-WASTEWATER TREATMENT)
Employee is responsible for the overall planning, management, and operation of the treatment facilities within a Section of the Wastewater Treatment Division of the Metropolitan Sewer District.
The supervisor provides direction and supervision necessary to ensure the proper functioning of water reclamation facilities, ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, educates the public, and ensures high‑quality water reclamation services.
All duties are performed on a 24‑hour, 7‑day a week schedule.
Job Responsibilities
Plan, manage, and operate assigned treatment facilities on a round‑the‑clock basis.
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and laws related to wastewater treatment.
Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives and performance measures.
Coordinate work plans, assign tasks, monitor workflow, and review work products.
Manage staffing: hire, train, motivate, evaluate, and, when necessary, discipline employees.
Supervise budgeting activities, approve expenditures, and adjust budgets as needed.
Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies, attend public meetings, and respond to media requests.
Analyze and troubleshoot plant problems, track key performance indicators, and interpret contract terms.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, regulators, and the community.
Maintain safe work practices and ensure that all employees follow OSHA guidelines and other applicable safety procedures.
Develop educational services for the public and serve as a liaison between agencies and the community.
Lead and coordinate capital projects, including outage requests and maintenance schedules, while maintaining permit compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
Three (3) years experience as a Plant Supervisor or Senior Plant Supervisor with the City of Cincinnati Metropolitan Sewer District.
Four (4) years experience as a Water Reclamation Plant Manager or Assistant Plant Manager in a Class III or IV plant (or a combination of the two).
Requirements
Valid driver’s license.
Excellent communication and team‑building skills.
Valid Ohio EPA Class IV Water Reclamation Professional Operator Certification (or Class III certification with the ability to obtain Class IV within 36 months of hire).
Failure to obtain Class IV within this period may result in reclassification or separation from employment.
Additional Considerations
Military education and experience may be substituted for college‑level coursework and vocational apprenticeship training on a case‑by‑case basis, in accordance with the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.
