Job Summary The Excavator operator will assist with all drainage/retaining wall activities and all excavations throughout our project. The job will start mid-January, and it is required to complete an OSHA 10 certification before your start date. Zachry Construction will coordinate and pay for you to get this certification if you do not already have one. Hires will be required to work six days a week and wear a long sleeve shirt and steel toe boots while working on this project. Only local candidates will be considered.
Essential Functions
Equipment operation under the direction of the supervisor
Bench and secure all excavations during the operation
Read cut stakes and grade elevations
Recognize hazardous conditions and report to the supervisor
Dig around and assist in exposing live utilities
Work day, night, and weekends as required
While operating equipment, communicate with others using verbal and non-verbal hand signals
Perform other labor-related duties as assigned by the supervisor
Required Skills & Experience
OSHA 10 certification is required before a start date; coordinated and paid for by Zachry Construction
You are required to wear a long sleeve shirt and steel toe boots while working
You must be able to work 6 days a week
3 plus years of excavation experience on heavy highway road construction projects
Ability to bench and secure all excavations during operation
Reliable transportation
Physical ability to perform assigned labor-related tasks (climbing ladders, climbing in and out of ditches)
Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
General labor skills
Basic knowledge of operating hand and power tools (hammers, sledgehammers, pry bars, screwdrivers, etc.)
