Senior Environmental Construction Inspector (part-time)
Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is seeking a qualified professional to perform field inspections of residential and commercial construction projects to ensure compliance with the county's Erosion and Stormwater Management, Floodplain, and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinances.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, environmental science, or related area preferred).
Three years of experience in construction inspections or related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Ability to read construction plans and maintain accurate, complete field‑activity records in an automated project‑tracking system.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of local and state road construction standards and Virginia Erosion and Stormwater Management Program (VESMP) inspection and reporting requirements, including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) reviews.
Certification as a Virginia Certified Project Inspector for Erosion and Sediment Control and for Storm Water Management (state certifications must be obtained within 12 months of employment).
Current valid driver’s license and a good driving record (no more than six demerit points in the previous 24 months).
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification.
Random drug testing and alcohol testing as required for the federally regulated DOT position.
Use of medical marijuana prohibited.

Responsibilities
Provide field inspections to ensure compliance with county, state, and federal regulations.
Respond to citizen inquiries and concerns regarding construction projects.
Perform inspections related to building permit applications, certificates of occupancy, and state acceptance.
Maintain current and accurate records of permitting and inspections.
Ensure adherence to administrative procedures for construction activities/projects.
Perform additional duties as required.
Additional Information Position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) offering career progression opportunities and salary incentives, based on performance, qualifications, and experience.
Shift: 28 hours/week; varies Monday‑Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Schedule review will begin December 29, 2025. Position remains open until filled.
