Pay Range $75,800.00-$104,200.00 Annual

This is the base salary pay range that an applicant can expect to make upon hire. Pay within this range will vary based upon relevant experience, skills, and education among other factors. In addition, this position is eligible for an incentive bonus.

Job Overview The Maintenance Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of all equipment, property, buildings, and facilities within the manufacturing plant. This position is responsible for leading the maintenance team, overseeing day-to-day operations, and partnering closely with production, engineering, and safety departments to support smooth and safe plant operations.

Johns Manville's Defiance, Ohio facilities are a leading producer of fiberglass insulation and specialty materials serving global markets, including aerospace, automotive, HVAC, and industrial applications. With approximately 500 employees across two manufacturing plants, a warehouse, and a regional sales office, the site produces a diverse range of products—from Micro-Lok® pipe insulation and aerospace materials to filtration, appliance insulation, and wallboard components. Our advanced glass manufacturing technologies support innovation and quality for customers worldwide.

Your Day to Day

Act as technical expert in regards to mechanical equipment

Supervise, set direction, and delegate daily work of assigned hourly mechanical and electrical employees to support the plant goals of safety, environmental and production

Lead safety process, training for crews and accident investigations

Monitor safety and environmental processes and compliance

Identify, isolate and facilitate resolution of maintenance performance issues such as quality of work and work efficiency

Troubleshoot process equipment operational problems and maintain, repair, and upgrade plant equipment

Identify and execute ways to track metrics of performance and improve production levels of employees

Share knowledge and business experience with Plant management team

Manage projects including obtaining contractor quotes, design help and directing contractor crews

Facilitate training of maintenance personnel

Identify, implement, and maintain best maintenance and safety practices

Conduct daily and monthly shift meetings

Maintain and enforce good housekeeping strategies and methodologies

Oversee the maintenance scheduling and work order system

Manage the maintenance and operations of the mobile equipment fleet and storeroom inventory

Manage hourly time and attendance process

Assist with MRO purchasing issues through maintenance software

May be required to perform other related duties as assigned

What You Bring to the Team

High School/Technical School diploma with a minimum of 10 years of manufacturing experience in a mechanical and/or electrical maintenance role

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field preferred with a minimum of 5 years' experience managing an industrial maintenance hourly workforce

Experience in preventative and predictive maintenance with demonstrated success in increasing equipment reliability

Working knowledge of plant systems with the ability to troubleshoot and implement corrective actions

Solid understanding of pneumatics, hydraulics, air compressor systems, cutting/welding techniques, fluid dynamic systems, and metal fabrication

General knowledge of mobile equipment repair, A/C and chiller systems and hydraulics

Thorough knowledge of high, medium and low voltage systems/control systems and instrumentation, and general industrial electrical

Working knowledge in AutoCAD drawing interpretation

Working knowledge of SAP systems preferred

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Solid project management and presentation skills

Demonstrated leadership skills

Solid analytical and quality improvement ability

Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Ability to interface at all levels of the organization, both internally and externally

Fundamental knowledge of laws, codes, and regulations (OSHA, National Electric Code, etc.)

Willingness to respond to emergency situations outside normal work schedule

Manages a staff of 40 hourly union employees, sets direction and deploys resources. Responsible for performance evaluations, pay reviews, hiring, and terminating.

Minimal travel required (0 10 days per year).

Work environment is typical of a manufacturing facility; may be exposed to environmental conditions of cold, heat, high noise levels, moving mechanical parts, heights, dust/mist/gas/fumes, extensive walking or climbing, etc.

May be required to lift, carry, push or pull up to and including 50 pounds.
