Job #VA5296 for Chantilly, VA The successful applicant will provide technical assistance for our water resources projects. Many of our projects serve public sector clients, which requires a high level of service and quality. Candidates should have a solid understanding of GIS concepts and Esri software. We are looking for a passionate GIS professional who is self‑motivated and eager to provide GIS‑based solutions for our staff and clients.
Roles And Responsibilities
Lead GKY’s corporate GIS goals and initiatives, including but not limited to the following:
Apply established policies and cartographic standards to GIS data for routine quality control and quality assurance to ensure data accuracy and integrity
Provide training and technical support to personnel on the use of GIS applications, design, or other mapping requirements
Evaluate new/developing technologies and software packages
Lead GKY’s GIS analysis and mapping capabilities, including but not limited to the following:
Communicate with project team members and clients to identify project requirements and desired products
Respond to requests for water resources information and analysis such as maps, summary tables, reports, and infrastructure data
Review GIS and database work products to ensure their accuracy and compatibility with existing GIS data
Develop drainage areas for stormwater infrastructure
Develop and maintain GIS applications and tools for collecting and reporting data
Provide Clean Water Act regulatory support through GIS analysis
Participate in fieldwork, performing stormwater infrastructure inspections, investigations, and reporting as needed
Required Skills & Experience
2 to 6 years of practical GIS experience or equivalent
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in GIS, geography, or related field
Strong proficiency with GIS, data analysis, and application development
Experience with field data collection and GPS techniques
Experience with Esri Desktop ArcGIS software (Desktop and Pro)
Experience with ArcGIS Online platform and associated products such as Collector, Field Maps, and Survey 123
Experience with the development of geodatabases and schemas
Experience with GIS integration with other technologies
Experience in producing high‑quality cartographic maps and project graphics
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing
Ability to perform fieldwork in difficult terrain and year‑round weather conditions
Excellent organization skills
Valid driver’s license
Authorized to work in the United States
Desired Qualifications
GISP and/or Esri Certification
Experience with task automation (Python or other GIS scripts), database management, and software development
Experience with Clean Water Act programming compliance and implementation, with specific experience with MS4 and TMDL programming
Experience working with local government
