The Manufacturing Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, tracking, and reporting manufacturing costs to support accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial reporting. This role includes hands‑on responsibility for

product and asset depreciation , ensuring compliance with accounting standards and supporting management decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & Analysis

Develop and maintain standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead

Analyze variances (material, labor, overhead) and investigate root causes

Perform monthly cost roll‑ups and margin analysis by product and production line

Support pricing decisions through detailed cost and profitability analysis

Calculate and record

product‑related depreciation

and amortization in accordance with GAAP/IFRS

Manage depreciation schedules for manufacturing equipment, tooling, molds, and capitalized production assets

Allocate depreciation costs accurately to products, cost centers, and inventory

Review depreciation methods and useful lives to ensure alignment with production usage

Partner with operations and engineering on capital expenditure tracking and asset lifecycle analysis

Inventory & Manufacturing Accounting

Oversee inventory valuation, including WIP, finished goods, and obsolete inventory reserves

Reconcile inventory accounts and support physical inventory counts

Ensure accurate absorption costing and overhead allocation

Maintain bills of materials (BOMs) and routings for costing accuracy

Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations related to manufacturing costs and depreciation

Support monthly close and audit requests related to cost accounting and fixed assets

Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

3–5+ years of manufacturing cost accounting experience

Demonstrated experience with product or manufacturing asset depreciation is required!

Strong understanding of standard costing and absorption costing

Proficiency in Excel and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Dynamics)
