Job Summary
The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres, and several wetlands mitigation banks, including Greens Bayou.
The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the Design Technician position, which is responsible for drafting construction documents, preparing exhibits, conducting record research, and entering data to support the Maintenance Engineering department.
Essential Functions & Duties CAD & Drafting
Use computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software to draft detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related construction documents from detailed surveys.
Convert rough sketches or drawings, and other engineering data received from the maintenance engineering designers or engineers into CAD drawings.
Plot construction plans showing profiles and cross-sections.
Records & Documentation
Research archived drawings to determine the availability of existing plans on past projects.
Prepare record drawings.
Prepare maps and exhibits required by the department engineers.
Calculations
Compute quantities of excavation and fill and other related construction materials for each project.
Additional Duties
Assume additional responsibilities as required, adapting to the District's evolving demands, responsibilities, needs, and objectives.

Education and Experience
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
Requires experience in design and drafting or a related field.
Requires experience with computer-aided drafting (CAD).
Licensure
Valid Class "C" Texas Driver’s License
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel), GIS Software, and ArcMap.
Familiar with SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat Professional.
Attention to detail.
Can work independently with limited supervision.
Can use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
