Construction Mechanical Engineer
for an onsite role in San Antonio, Texas. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor’s degree, a current Professional Engineering license, and 10+ years of experience in MEP design across municipal/aviation, education, healthcare, and commercial office sectors.
Job Overview The Construction Mechanical Engineer will lead and mentor the MEP design team, oversee budgeting, scheduling, and staff management, and design energy‑efficient, sustainable HVAC and plumbing systems. Responsibilities include owning projects from inception to completion and driving project success for our client’s team.
Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the Engineer of Record for Mechanical and Plumbing disciplines.
Provide leadership and oversight for the MEP design team throughout the project lifecycle, from initiation to completion.
Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets and schedules to ensure timely, on‑budget, and high‑quality project delivery.
Lead the design and development of HVAC and plumbing systems.
Conduct and verify load calculations for HVAC and plumbing systems.
Perform Construction Administration tasks, including reviewing submittals and shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and attending CA meetings.
Conduct site visits to assess field installations and perform field observations.
Manage assigned projects, coordinating and guiding the design team from inception to completion.
Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute detailed phases of assigned project work, ensuring adherence to quality standards across all projects.
Lead design and construction meetings, ensuring effective communication and decision‑making.
Mentor junior team members and assign tasks to design staff as needed.
Provide periodic, objective feedback during employee check‑ins in support of Annual Performance Reviews.
Prepare, monitor, and manage contracts, fee proposals, and contract negotiations.
Collaborate with Business Development teams to build client relationships and support repeat business opportunities.
Perform additional duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Current Professional Engineering License.
At least 5 years as a licensed Professional Engineer.
Ability to obtain Professional Licensure in Texas.
10+ years of experience in MEP design, with expertise in Municipal/Aviation, Education, Healthcare, and Commercial Office sectors.
7+ years of experience managing MEP design projects.
3+ years of Project Management experience.
3+ years of Supervisory experience leading an MEP design team.
Valid Texas Driver’s License, a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR), and a successful background check.
