Payroll Tax Specialist (Backend Payroll) Work Arrangement:

100% Onsite Contract Duration:

Initial 3-month contract with

very strong potential for extension and/or conversion

Position Overview We are seeking a Payroll Tax Specialist with strong

backend payroll and payroll tax processing experience . This role focuses on activities

after payroll has been processed , including tax filings, notices, reconciliations, and coordination with tax agencies and third-party providers. The position supports a high-volume, fast-paced payroll environment and requires exceptional attention to detail and consistency.

Key Responsibilities

Process and manage

payroll tax activities

including federal, state, and FICA taxes.

Handle

payroll tax filings , amendments, and reconciliations.

Respond to and resolve

tax notices

from federal, state, and local agencies.

Work directly with

state agencies , tax vendors, and third-party providers.

Manage

power of attorney (POA)

and third-party authorization documentation.

Support

multi-state payroll tax compliance

and reporting requirements.

Participate in

payroll projects , including testing and validation efforts.

Communicate through internal ticketing systems and coordinate with external tax vendors.

Attend meetings and provide status updates as required.

Maintain accuracy and compliance in a

high-volume, deadline-driven environment .

Required Skills & Experience

2–3 years of payroll tax experience , with a strong focus on backend payroll.

Solid understanding of

federal, state, and FICA payroll taxes .

Hands‑on experience with

payroll tax filing and compliance .

Experience working with

state tax agencies

and resolving tax notices.

Multi‑state payroll tax experience

required.

Proficiency in

Microsoft Excel

and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong attention to detail, consistency, and accuracy.

Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Self‑motivated with strong organizational skills.

Education

High School Diploma or GED required.
