GEAR UP Coordinator, Dr. William W. Sullivan Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach
The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for this position. The role works under the general direction of the assistant director for GEAR UP and is responsible for managing activities conducted within GEAR UP schools, including comprehensive counseling, instruction, mentoring, and coordination of parental involvement, tutoring, and after‑school programs.
Responsibilities Coordinate activities to enhance participation of parents and students and ensure alignment with other CAEO projects and related federal and non‑federal programs. Facilitate a positive working relationship with the school district and school personnel. Stay current with applicable TRIO and GEAR UP trends, regulations, methods and philosophies. Support both academic and administrative functions within the Center and exercise discretion and independent judgment when coordinating various aspects of the program within high schools and middle schools.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university and 2 years of professional experience. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment. Must be able to drive and maintain a valid Nevada driver license, pass a federal background check/fingerprinting process through the Clark County School District, obtain a CCSD ID Badge, and be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree preferred. Direct experience with TRIO, GEAR UP or similar grant‑funded projects preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Demonstrated ability to work with and counsel academically at‑risk, under‑resourced students. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, effective time management, good computer skills, and experience with online communication preferred.
Salary Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
