The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the GEAR UP Coordinator, Dr. William W. Sullivan, Center for Academic Enrichment and Outreach. The position works under the general direction of the Assistant Director for GEAR UP and is responsible for managing the activities conducted within the GEAR UP schools.

Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate comprehensive counseling, instruction, and mentoring for participants in assigned schools.

Plan, develop, and facilitate tutoring sessions and after‑school programs.

Coordinate parental involvement activities and enhance parent and student participation.

Collect, analyze, and maintain student and parent information for evaluation and assessment.

Work with other CAEO projects and related federal and non‑federal programs to maximize coordination of activities.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with school district personnel.

Stay current with TRIO and GEAR UP trends, regulations, methods, and philosophies.

Support both academic and administrative functions within the Center.

Exercise discretion and independent judgment when coordinating aspects of the GEAR UP program in high schools and middle schools.

Advise the Center’s participants and contribute to program evaluation.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or CHEA.

Minimum of 2 years of professional experience.

Driver’s license (Nevada) and ability to drive as required.

Successful federal background check/fingerprinting through the Clark County School District and receipt of a CCSD ID Badge.

Authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

All credentials must be obtained prior to the start of employment.

In lieu of a bachelor's degree, candidates may qualify with four additional years of relevant experience or an associate's degree plus two additional years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Direct experience with TRIO, GEAR UP, or similar grant‑funded projects.

Supervisory experience.

Knowledge and ability to counsel academically at‑risk, under‑resourced students.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong time‑management and organizational skills.

Proficient with computer applications and online communication with students.
